On a chilly Saturday morning in Bagshot Square, local Liberal Democrat Councillors and residents made every effort to grab last minute signatures from shoppers and library users alike. The petition has now been submitted to County Hall, with over 1,000 local people having taken the time to sign.

Councillors Bryan Ward, John Faulkner and Duncan Clark have also written to Surrey County Council requesting a meeting so that all options of partnership working between Windlesham Parish Council, Surrey heath Borough Council and Surrey County Council can be explored.

They have also gained support from Surrey Heath Borough Council, which recently passed a motion noting its concern at the possible closure of this important community facility. Windlesham Parish Council has also written to the County Council to express its concern about any closure.

Councillor Meurig Williams said "The plans to close Bagshot Library will only save approximately £20,000 per annum. This is a very small amount of money when you take into account the County Councils £50 million self imposed finance crisis".

Councillor Duncan Clark commented "On a bitterly cold Saturday morning, I visited the library in between collecting signatures. Not only was the library packed with young kids and parents, but it was also being used by the local Police for their regular community surgery. If this is not evidence enough that we need to save this, I do not know what is!"
