Extensive Parking Restrictions in Frimley proposed by Surrey County Council12.00.00am GMT Wed 10th Jan 2007
Plans to address the issues of parking around Frimley Park Hospital have been published by the Surrey County Council. They involve extensive use of single and double yellow lines over a wide area. The problems of parking around the Hospital have existed for many years. Two petitions were presented by residents to the County council in 2005. Whilst Conservative Country Councillors have publicly squabbled between themselves about the problems and blamed the Hospital for not taking action, Frimley Park has in fact opened up more parking for its staff. Progress on the issue has actually been delayed by staff cuts of up to 30% in the transportation service of the County Council itself! Cllr Bob Smith said: " It is good to see the County Council officers considering the problems over a wide area of Frimley, and not just around the Hospital itself. Clearly, parking restrictions placed in one area may simply have the effect of moving the problem elsewhere. "There are some of these recommendation that I wholeheartedly welcome. An example is the use of double yellow lines on the entrance roads to the Parkside estate. However, I am concerned about the restrictions that will be imposed on residents parking outside their own houses. I want like to see a residents parking scheme fully investigated and this option also consulted on." Residents parking schemes have not been favoured in the past, as a significant charge on residents would have been required to pay for their enforcement. However, this situation has changed as the new yellow line parking restrictions will have to be enforced in any case. Bob Smith concluded: "I would strongly urge all residents to view the plans and comment on them. They will be available on the Surrey Heath Lib Dem website as well as being displayed at Camberley library and Frimley Parish Hall". Extracts from the consultation maps are attached as links below. These show the extent and the time bands within which parking will be prohibited Related Links:Consultation Map - Frimley area. Consultation Map - Gilbert Road. Consultation Map - Parkside Estate.
