Lib Dem community activists Gret Woodason and Ruth Hutchinson swept to a stunning victory in the Bagshot by-election on 13th December.

The election was caused by the death of Lib Dem Councillor Bryan Ward in October.

The result will come as a bitter blow to the local Conservatives who called the by-election the day after Bryan's funeral.

Gret Woodason who is now a Surrey Heath Borough Councillor said: "I am particularly pleased because Bryan Ward was such a wonderful man"

"I am looking forward to working on issues such as recycling and speeding."

Ruth Hutchinson, who is now a Windlesham Parish Councillor, said "I will be monitoring flooding and traffic issues as well as liaising with the Police and youth groups."

The full result was as follows:

Surrey Heath Borough Council:

Gret Woodason (LD) 720 - Elected

Valerie White (Con) 590

Windlesham Parish Council:

Ruth Hutchinson (LD) 762 - Elected

Caroline Reid (Con) 548
