Councillor David Whitcroft and Cindy Ferguson discuss traffic problems with local resident

A number of parents had expressed their concern about the poor traffic control, congestion and dangerous parking outside Mytchett Primary School, Hamesmoor Road, Mytchett. So we distributed a questionnaire to get parents' and residents' views.

They told us that the main problem is the number of cars parked outside the front of the school, often double parked, or parked on pavements or on corners. Other drivers have difficulty in passing and frequently face the hazard of car doors opening into the road.

The school were aware of these problems and this survey provided them with helpful information. They have now challenged Surrey County Council to take some action as they are responsible for traffic issues within the Borough. A Traffic Planning Working Group has been formed that includes school governors, staff, parents and residents.

It is hoped that the County Council will respond by working at reducing the speed limits that will contribute to a safer route to school.
