Duncan Clark is 35, married to Donna and has two young daughters. Duncan currently lives in Frimley Green, but before this lived in Bagshot and Windlesham. Duncan first moved to the Surrey Heath area at the age of 3 when his parents moved to Windlesham from South London. Duncan was educated at Valley End First School, Connaught Middle School in Bagshot and Collingwood School in Camberley. Duncan joined the Liberal Democrats in 1987 at the age of 15, and has been an active campaigner in Surrey Heath since then. In 1990 Duncan attended the University of Huddersfield where he undertook a degree in History and Politics. During his time here he served on the Student Union Executive as Welfare Officer, where he developed his interest in housing issues. In 1995 Duncan attended Sheffield Hallam University where he undertook a Postgraduate Diploma in Housing Administration. In 1997 Duncan returned home to Surrey Heath to start his housing career with a local housing association. He now works as a Senior Property Manager for a national housing association, specialising in NHS Key workers accommodation management. Duncan is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Housing. In 1999 Duncan was elected to Surrey Heath Borough Council and Windlesham Parish Council for Bagshot. Having subsequently moved to Frimley Green, Duncan stood for election there in 2007 and was elected as a Borough Councillor for that village. He is a long standing member of the SHBC's Standards Committee and he also sits on the External Select Committee. Duncan is the Deputy Group Leader of the Liberal Democrat Council Group at Surrey Heath and has been a Governor of Collingwood College in Camberley since 2001. In the little spare time he has, Duncan enjoys growing organic vegetables on his allotment. Political issues: The three keys themes which are important to Duncan are 'Freedom, Fairness and Sustainability'. Freedom - from state interference, e.g. the Labour Governments introduction of ID Cards, and freedom for local people to take decisions over local services, e.g. democratic local control over NHS services and local decisions on planning - rather than by government quangos. Fairness - ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to have a decent place to live, an excellent education, and access to good health and social services. Duncan has been a long standing campaigner against Student Loans. He has also used his professional experience in housing to push for affordable housing to become a priority in our local area, and was part of the Liberal Democrats recent national working Party that developed the 'Affordable Homes in Safer, Greener Communities' Housing Policy. Sustainability - if we don't protect our planet then everything else is a bit pointless! Duncan has a keen interest in making Government and local authorities more responsive to the need to tackle climate change and is a supporter of renewable energy.
