Improve Collection from Recycling Bring Sites

Speech by Proposer: Patricia Pinder Seconder: Bryan Ward delivered to Surrey Heath Borough Council on Wed 19th Jul 2006

"This Council: notes the increasing interest of residents in Surrey Heath in recycling and that current "bring" recycling facilities throughout the Borough are at the limit of their capacity;

recognises that containers at many facilities are often overfilled, leading to litter and other amenity issues in their surroundings as well as health and safety issues for residents, their children and Council staff;

recognises that owners of sites on which many of these facilities are located will be increasingly unwilling to have these containers on their land, making the problem worse;

directs the Executive to:

(a) bring forward plans to increase collection of recyclables from the doorstep, in line with other councils, in order to relieve pressure on the "bring" sites and increase overall recycling rates

(b) in the short term, to increase the frequency that such local recycling facilities are emptied
